Your first few iterations of the site will most likely be private so that only you and the one or two people who you want to get feedback from can see your progress.
Is your page findable through search engines?
Check the Discourage search engines from indexing this site in Reading Settings to make sure search engines do not show your half-finished site. Once your site is done, you can uncheck this box.
Is your page accessible to your peers and supervisor?
- When you first get your personal website, you will be the only one with an administrator account. You can add new users in the Users Tab and then click Add New. Enter the email address of the user you would like to add and then choose an appropriate role for them.
- Check out this useful tool from Allie Nimmons on LinkedInLearning on what each role can do in your wordpress dashboard.

How to make your website secure
- Once your website is made, Carleton will create a security certificate for you. Typically, security certificates take about 24 hours to populate. If your website is still not secure after a couple days, create a helpdesk ticket or email our academic technologists.
- Backups of your site will also be done automatically. You will have 1 gig of storage but sometimes you may receive emails if you are close to your maximum storage capacity.
